Work on a road that will link Lochinvar's future town centre to the community is complete, laying the groundwork for additional housing and a shopping centre to be developed. Springfield Drive, which will open to road users in June, is the link road connecting the future Lochinvar town centre and shopping village, which will have a Woolworths supermarket, pub, and space for other retail and commercial businesses. The road is at the intersection of three developments: Lochinvar Ridge by Urban Land Housing, Lochinvar Downs by Hunter Land, and Hereford Hill by McCloy Group.

Urban Land Housing managing director Christopher Lowry said while the road isn't a destination in itself, it will be used daily by community members. "Thousands will use it to reach the places that matter to them, they use it to get home, to visit friends, to take children to school, to reach the rail station and the future town centre, that's why this road matters," he said. "It's more than just a piece of infrastructure, it's a connection point." Mr Lowry said internally Springfield Drive has gained the nickname 'the friendship road', as the three developers collaborated to bring it to life. "The completion of this road is a major step forward, it creates more options, better movement, better access, and it helps set the foundation of Lochinvar's growth," Mr Lowry said. Maitland mayor Philip Penfold said land and availability of housing is vitally important to the people of Maitland.

"It's important to continue to release these residential lots and I know that this road will allow for an additional 52 lots in the short term," he said. "Making this land available to the community is important to them, and it's the important connection piece, this road here, to allow for that to continue to develop."
